This novel is an unrelenting pageturner and just as intense as its theme, which is--duh--revenge with a vengence. After the introductory chapter, which leaves her brother murdered and Monza Murcotta left for dead by their betraying employer, Duke Orso, the story blocks into 6 segments corrolating to the 6 weasels Monza vows to destroy as recompense. Each takes place in a different area of the country, so atmospherics abound. Characters, too, are draped in idiosyncratic affectations and quirky personalities as to remain mentally visualized throughout the read. Like his previous work of intransigent spilled guts, soiled campaigns, and chewed-up characters—The First Law Trilogy—author Abercrombie rolls his readers in the dirt with gleefully-wicked allowance.
